Discovering my Style Statement
August 14, 2009

Wow – More than a week has passed since Mike planted himself in El Paso.
I miss him. A lot. It’s like feeling homesick, but sitting in the middle of your house.
Instead of going out in the world distracting myself with the tons of cool things going on, I’m going to hide away at home and get through this first stage of the lonelies.
For now, going out is no fun because he isn’t there to share it with. Don’t worry. I will not become a recluse. I have lived through separations much longer and further away. Such is the sacrafice of an Army wife.
I know this will pass and life will level out – soon — but for now, I want to be quiet and still.
What I need is some down time.
It’s not time to wallow in the blues, but time to drill down a bit and turn my focus inward.
This weekend, I want to fill my coffee cup, scribble in my journal, read my books, take walks and rest …. all the things that slow down the treadmill in my head.
The Amazon angels recently delivered ”Style Statement” by Carrie McCarthy and Danielle LaPorte to my door. I believe this book will be my constant companion for a while. I love it. I love the look, the slick feel of the pages, the soft hued words, the images inside — everything about it.
The premise of the book is that personal style defines your life and projects who you are. Knowing and defining your personal style helps you make more powerful choices so that you can create and live an authentic life.
I might use this space to explore ideas and delve into what makes me tick. In the end, I’m supposed to discover two words that define me.
Style is much more than clothing choices; it’s about the choices you make that communicate to the world who you are and what you want.
I’m eager to see what I find.

Hi sweetie!
You have me wanting to get this book. : ) I adore reading. Just adore it. I was cleaning my room today and found the older book “a space of her own” (paraphrasing title) by Chris Madden. I just swooned, when I opened it.
I love it over here, it’s beautiful.

Hi Carrie! Yes — my style statment is simple Sacred. I should have followed up with that in a post — I got side tracked after I discovered it.
It is so right on. I can’t tell you. I look in the mirror, i see a woman in jeans, T-shirts, little makeup. But underneath is the searching for authenticity, truth, understanding!!
Thanks for asking!!
